Here’s a mysterious date marking from the east side of Clifford Street between Kalamazoo and Marcus. The typeface and corner placement strongly suggest it was done by the BWL, but they usually stamped their name into the lower left corner of the same slab, so I’m not sure why it is absent here. Possibly the sidewalk used to be wider.
Kipling Blvd., DPW, 1992
This stamp is on the west side of Kipling Boulevard, alongside Capital Imaging (which is located on East Michigan Avenue at Kipling). I have previously catalogued a George Hagamier stamp on the same stretch of sidewalk and written a little about the Capital Imaging building in the process.
This is the most recent example I have seen of the “1980s” style DPW stamp, and also therefore the latest use of the “DPW” name. The next style used appears to be the simple “O & M” stamps. Most of those are undated but I have found a few marked as 2005.
There are three stamps, one on either end of a run of sidewalk and one on the driveway in between.
S. Foster Ave., G & M, 1992
I stopped to check this one out because for a moment I thought it was a style of O & M stamp I hadn’t seen before, and I have been trying to catalogue all those variations. Instead I found a stamp from the mysterious G & M, on the east side of Foster Avenue between Prospect and Michigan.
I haven’t been able to find out much about G & M. I am guessing they were the G & M Construction Corporation, which I can find an entry for in OpenCorporates. They incorporated in June 1995 and dissolved in 2003.
Assuming this is the same G & M Construction Corporation, they were located on Pollard Road in southwest Lansing at an address that seems to just serve as a house today.
